Emmett Eugene Wickline, age 82, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home.

Mr. Wickline is survived by his wife, Josephine Cottle Wickline of Beulaville; two daughters, Denise Wickline Blizzard and husband Wally, Donna Wickline Price and husband Mike both of Beulaville; son, Emmett Eugene “Gene” Wickline II and wife Melody of Beulaville; two sisters, Betty Pauley of KY, Helen Park of MO; two brothers, Charles Wickline of Beulaville, Larry Wickline and wife Jean of GA; six grandchildren, Paul Price and wife Lindi, Cassie Futral and husband Brandon, Hillary Cohrs and husband Chris, Erin Futral and husband Mitch, Garrett Wickline, and Ian Wickline; and five great grandchildren, Perry Miller, Lake Futral, Gabe Price, Maggie Futral, and Brier Cohrs..

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, surrounded by family, Harry N. Deal was called home to be with his Heavenly Father.  He was born on February 20, 1929, to Orion and Aubrey Deal in Kannapolis, NC.  At age 11 his family moved to Wilmington, NC where he attended Wilmington Schools and graduated from New Hanover High School.  He was then drafted into the army. He fought in the Korean War and was wounded, earning a Purple Heart.  After his discharge he moved to Jacksonville.

On February 28, 1953, he married his love, Letha Thigpen of Beulaville. They had sixty-five years together.  He attended barber school and barbered for several years.  He then changed occupations and worked as a civil service employee with Base Maintenance as a plumber until he retired.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.  His faith in God was strong, the foundation of his life.  He enjoyed his church, Beulaville Baptist, where he sang tenor in the church choir and went on several mission trips.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Aubrey Deal; sisters, Helen Fleming and Dorothy Hollopeter; and twin daughters that died shortly after birth.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Letha Thigpen Deal of the home; daughter Robin Jarman of Beulaville; son Scott Deal (Terri) of Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren; Michelle Lamb (Doug) of Beulaville; Sabrina Willaford (Travis) of Beulaville; Nicholas Albano of Beulaville; Anna Ruth and Rebecca Deal of Murfreesboro, TN; and two great grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin Sutton of Beulaville as well as wonderful nieces and nephews.

Betty Gould Quinn Rhodes, age 83, died Thursday, May 31, 2018, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.  She is survived by her daughter Denise R. Meacham of Dudley, son Brian Tad Rhodes of Whitakers, sister Wyoma Quinn Thomas of Beulaville, four grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Mattie Kennedy Bostic, 85, of Beulaville, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, after a brief illness.  Mattie was born in 1932, the first of five children of Thomas and Bessie Horne Kennedy.  Mattie was Miss Popularity of Beulaville High School Class of 1950 and graduated from James Walker School of Nursing in Wilmington in 1953.  Mattie was married to Jesse Ray Bostic for fifty years, from 1957 until his passing in 2008.

Mattie joined the nursing staff of Duplin General Hospital in 1958 and served for many years as the Operating Room Supervisor.  After her “retirement” in 2006, she continued to work part time at the hospital until her death, an uninterrupted span of over 59 years.

Mattie was an active member of Beulaville Baptist Church since 1945.  She could be found most Sundays in the choir loft.  She remained active in the community and maintained a close circle of friends.

She is survived by her three children, Dino Ray Bostic and wife Pat of Cary, Tina Bostic Kennedy and husband Randall of Beulaville, and Dana Ross Bostic and wife Vickie of Garner; grandchildren Daniel Ethan Bostic, Heather Kennedy Roberts, Erika Kennedy Allen, Patrick Ross Bostic and Andrew Reid Bostic, and five great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her brother Berry Carroll Kennedy and survived by brothers Elwood Earl Kennedy of Aberdeen and Elmo Gerald Kennedy of Chinquapin; and a sister, Mavis Kennedy Butler of Bakersville, CA.

Barry Alan Sloan, age 54, died Monday, April 23, 2018 at home.  He was preceded in death by his father George Sloan and brother Danny Sloan.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby W. Sloan of Chinquapin; sons, Spenser Sloan and girlfriend Maddie of Chinquapin, Waylon Sloan of Chinquapin; mother, Ann Kennedy and husband Gerald of Chinquapin; Sister Teresa Kelley of MS; brothers, Kevin Sloan of Chinquapin, and Michael Kennedy of MS.
