Elner Futrell Weston of Potters Hill, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. She was born on September 19, 1933 in Duplin County, NC to Marion and Rena Futrell. On April 3, 1953 she married Leo Weston, her loving husband of 66 years. Together the couple had two children, Debbie W. Harden of Charlotte, NC and Danny L. Weston of Kenansville, NC, whom they loved dearly.

Elner dedicated her life to caring for her husband, her children, and her five grandchildren. She also loved to spend time talking with friends and family, reading, traveling, and watching Carolina basketball.

Elner was preceded in death by her brother Elwood “Bud” Futrell and his wife Betty Futrell. She is survived by her husband Leo, her daughter Debbie and her husband Mark, her son Danny and his wife Marcy, her niece Ginger Futral and her husband Kevin (Jacksonville, NC), and her five grandchildren: Christopher Weston (Kenansville, NC), Michael Harden (Cambridge, MA), Morgan Harden (Charlotte, NC), Matthew Harden (Charlotte, NC), and Brandon Weston (Kenansville, NC).

The family would like to give thanks to the caregivers that provided so much for her, including her home caregivers Sharon, Dannette, Joy, Tammy, Andrea, and Lucy; her companions Jill and LaTonya; and her entire family at the Davis Community.

The family will receive visitors on January 1, 2020 at 1pm at Serenity Funeral Home in Beulaville, immediately followed by the funeral service at 2pm. Burial will follow at East Duplin Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or to Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405.

Lenwood Dallon Horne, age 92, of Richlands, died December 29, 2019 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington.  He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen Horne and son Malcolm Horne.  Mr. Horne was a veteran of WWII.  After the war he started his garage, Horne’s Speedway.  He loved to race, compete in car shows, and especially loved Corvettes.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 7:00 PM with visitation following at Serenity Funeral Home in Beulaville.  A graveside service will be on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Onslow Memorial Park in Jacksonville.  The family asks those attending the graveside on Saturday to drive your classic cars.

Mr. Horne is survived by his sons, Dalton Horne and wife Ann of Richlands, and Kendall Horne and wife Lark of Kenansville; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Elmore Lewis Sandlin, age 91, died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Autumn Village in Beulaville. Mr. Sandlin is survived by his daughter, Jackie Lanier of Beulaville; sister, Janice Thomas of Beulaville; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Wilma Elizabeth Brown Lanier, age 88, of Surf City, NC went to be with our Lord, October 27, 2019.  She passed at home of natural causes surrounded by family. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 2, at Serenity Funeral Home with visitation at 12:30 pm and funeral service at 2 pm, followed by burial at East Duplin Memorial Gardens in Beulaville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Chapel by the Bay, P.O. Box 2946, Surf City, NC  28445.

Wilma is preceded in death by her father, David Edward “Ned” Brown and mother, Anna Laura Wiggins Brown and her husband, David Clarence “DC” Lanier. 

Born at home in Rose Hill, NC on May 15, 1931.  She graduated from Chinquapin High School in 1950.  Wilma and D.C. were married October 9, 1953.  Together, they founded Lanier’s Campground in 1975.  They enjoyed traveling to different countries as well as camping throughout the continental United States.  They donated land for Chapel By the Bay Church.  She was responsible for establishing the choir where she enjoyed singing for over 20 years.  Not only was she dedicated to the church but her family.  Wilma enjoyed carving, quilting, fishing, gardening and shopping.  Her favorite pastime was a home cooked meal on a table surrounded by her family. Her best friend was her mother-in-law, Hettie “Granny” Pickett Lanier. 

She is survived by her four children: Elizabeth Lanier Outlaw and husband “Dobby” Dovelle, Jr. of Albertson, Wayne Lanier and wife Robin of Surf City, Donna Lanier and friend, Barry Meready of Hampstead, Sandra Lanier Raynor and husband Lynn of Hampstead.

Grandchildren:  Dovelle “Dee” Outlaw, III; Phillip Outlaw and wife Dory; LeeAnna Outlaw Wilson and husband Clayton; Jordan Lanier Barkman and husband Brian; Alena Mitchell Smith and husband Joseph; Ashley Mitchell Corbett and husband Hunter; Meagan Raynor, Cody Raynor. Great grandchildren:  Carson Outlaw, Carlee Outlaw, Lanier Barkman, Zoe Smith, Jax Smith, Isla Corbett, Silas Corbett, Rowen Wilson, Evans Wilson.
