Elijah Emilio Guerrero, 3 weeks old, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 in UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.  He is survived by his parents, Jean Carlos and Katherine Guerrero of Richlands; grandmother, Dorca Guerrero of NY; grandmother Vilma Reyn of FL; and grandfather, Juan Carlos Acosta of FL.

Judith T. Byrd, 78 of Fountain, NC passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Judy was the daughter of Jay and Lottie Thomas from Beulaville, NC. She is survived by her sister, Myra Ann McLawhorn, her daughters, Tina Evans and Sheila Staffelbach all of Greenville, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She taught in the public school system for a little over 30 years. During that time, she served as a high school teacher, yearbook editor and department chair. Upon retirement she began traveling with her sister, oldest brother and sister in law across the U.S. and Canada. She enjoyed documenting their travels and family events through photography. She loved God and her church and was active in many aspects of service and worship. In addition, she enjoyed reading, being outside and going to the beach.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 am and a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at Fountain Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. The graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm at East Duplin Memorial Gardens in Beulaville, NC.

Clarence Gibson “C. G.” Thigpen, Jr., age 81, died Friday, September 4, 2020 at home. Mr. Thigpen is survived by his wife, Faye L. Thigpen; daughter, Terri Mosely and husband Todd; grandson Alex Mosley and wife Katie; great grandson Caiden Mosley; sister, Shirley Mercer; stepson, Kent Albertson and wife Donna; step daughters Joy Howard and husband Dexter, Ellen Roberts and husband Ken; five step grandsons; 3 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Mercer Burnett, age 71, died Monday, August 24, 2020 at home.  She is preceded in death by son Jamie Burnett and granddaughter Briana Kenan.

Mrs. Burnett is survived by her husband, Jack Allen Burnett of Beulaville; two daughters, Rhonda Wilson of Greenville, Angela Stocks of Greenville; son, Patrick Burnett of Beulaville; sister Sharon Strickland of Beulaville; six grandchildren, Aaron Burnett, Abigail Burnett, Zoey Burnett, Brayden Link, Tara Stocks, Joseph White, Justin Wilson; and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Burnett, Ty’Zayah Kenan.

Reuben Earl Mercer, age 88, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Reuben was a veteran of the Army.  Throughout his life he was always civic minded.  He served in numerous civic organizations including serving as a volunteer in the Guardian ad Litem program and Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America, where he helped start a new scout troop.  He was a man of faith helping to start a church with four other families that carries on to this day. He also served there as an Elder.  He touched many a life and was a mighty good man.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, 11:00 AM at East Duplin Memorial Gardens, Beulaville.

Reuben is survived by his wife of 69 years Shirley T. Mercer of Beulaville; sons, Earl Trent Mercer of Durham, William Fredrick Mercer of Winston-Salem; sisters, Wanda Roberts of Beulaville, Margaret Williams of Beulaville; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
