Richard “Rick” Loys Van Natta, age 71, died Saturday, September 16, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. Mr. Van Natta is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Van Natta.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine J. Van Natta of Beulaville; son, Eric Van Natta of WI; sisters, Cathy Farahani of IL, Lori Gaffney of IL; and brother Alan Van Natta of IL.

Walter “Walt” Daniel Reed, age 69, died on September 6, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents B.W. “Dan” Reed and M. Louise Reed and his beloved dog Rex.
Walt was an exterminator in the Seattle metro area for many years. He retired into his RV where he traveled for a while before settling in a place he really liked. He was honest and generous, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Teresa I. Reed of Overland Park, KS; niece Ali Edson; nephew, Jason Downing; and several cousins.

Jackie Southern, beloved brother and friend, age 81, went to meet his heavenly Father on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Wallace Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a long illness. Jackie excelled at any sport he played. He loved sports of any kind all of his life. Most of his classmates considered him their hero. Jackie is a die hard Tarheel and Packers fan. Jackie surely will be missed by everyone, but knowing he is at peace will give us comfort and strength.
A celebration of Jackie’s life and celebration of his birthday will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Officiating will be Phil Shepard and Michael Shivar.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Estelle Southern.
Jackie is survived by sons, Dennis Southern (Meredith) of Fayetteville, James Southern of TN; sisters Pat Shivar (James) of Jacksonville, Debbie Scott (Randy) of Chinquapin; 3 grandchildren; niece Dusty Scott; and nephews, Jimmy Shivar, Michael Shivar, Mark Scott, and Patrick Scott.
The family has requested no flowers, just your presence will be a blessing. Please donate to your local church in his honor and continue to keep his family in your prayers.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Simmons and wife Stephanie of Beulaville; brother Joseph Charles Johnson of Arkansas; and two grandchildren, Caleb Simmons, and Colby Simmons.

Delwood Lanier, age 75, died Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington. He is preceded in death by his son, Bradley Scott Lanier; parents, Walter and Bessie Lanier; sisters Faye Jones, Marie Lanier; and brother Harold Lanier.
Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife, Patricia Jones Lanier of Potters Hill; daughter, Ashley Lanier-Tucker and husband Jason of Wilmington; sister, Jackie Sloan and husband Terry of Chinquapin; brothers, Hilton Lanier and wife Pauline of Chinquapin, Gerald Lanier and wife Sue of Chinquapin, Carlton Lanier and wife Marissa of Beulaville; and three grandchildren, Bradley Julianna, and Matthew.
