Iona Fountain Williams, 92, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Iona was born in Duplin County to the late Clyde Ervin Fountain and Myrtie Futral Fountain.  Iona was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Radford Williams, as well as her sister, Reba, and two brothers, Hobert and Elwood.

Iona graduated from Chinquapin High School in 1943 and for the past twenty years organized most of the annual class reunions.  She lovingly dedicated her life to her husband, daughters, church, and gardening.  Iona was talented in sewing and helped support the family by making most of her daughters’ clothes as they grew up.  Iona enjoyed being outside tending a vegetable garden along with azaleas, roses, and other flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, ceramics, crocheting and word puzzles.  Iona was immensely devoted to her faith at Bethel Presbyterian Church and was proud to serve in many roles over the years including Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and director, Women of the Church leader, as well as choir member and Elder.  After retirement, Iona and Rad enjoyed stateside road trips with her sister, Reba and brother in law, Marvin Fountain.

Iona is survived by her three daughters, Fran Kennedy (Carroll) of Pink Hill, NC, Sandy Cobb (Ray) of Wallace, NC, and Ginny Fountain (Myron) of Raleigh, NC, and her grandchildren, Joy Sandlin (Sherman), David Kennedy (Renee’), Jennifer Cobb, Austin Cobb and Lane Cobb, and her great-grandchildren, Trent Mobley, Katie Fanning, Adam Kennedy and Spencer Sandlin.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 8, at Serenity Funeral Home, 1100 S. NC 41 & 111, Beulaville, NC.  Funeral services, also at Serenity, will be held at 2:00 pm with Crandall Fountain and Johnny Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanier-Thigpen Cemetery on Quinn Store Road in Beulaville.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Autumn Village in Beulaville and the Vidant Medical Center Palliative Care Unit in Greenville.
