Iona Fountain Williams, 92, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Iona was born in Duplin County to the late Clyde Ervin Fountain and Myrtie Futral Fountain.  Iona was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Radford Williams, as well as her sister, Reba, and two brothers, Hobert and Elwood.

Iona graduated from Chinquapin High School in 1943 and for the past twenty years organized most of the annual class reunions.  She lovingly dedicated her life to her husband, daughters, church, and gardening.  Iona was talented in sewing and helped support the family by making most of her daughters’ clothes as they grew up.  Iona enjoyed being outside tending a vegetable garden along with azaleas, roses, and other flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, ceramics, crocheting and word puzzles.  Iona was immensely devoted to her faith at Bethel Presbyterian Church and was proud to serve in many roles over the years including Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher and director, Women of the Church leader, as well as choir member and Elder.  After retirement, Iona and Rad enjoyed stateside road trips with her sister, Reba and brother in law, Marvin Fountain.  

Iona is survived by her three daughters, Fran Kennedy (Carroll) of Pink Hill, NC, Sandy Cobb (Ray) of Wallace, NC, and Ginny Fountain (Myron) of Raleigh, NC, and her grandchildren, Joy Sandlin (Sherman), David Kennedy (Renee’), Jennifer Cobb, Austin Cobb and Lane Cobb, and her great-grandchildren, Trent Mobley, Katie Fanning, Adam Kennedy and Spencer Sandlin.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 8, at Serenity Funeral Home, 1100 S. NC 41 & 111, Beulaville, NC.  Funeral services, also at Serenity, will be held at 2:00 pm with Crandall Fountain and Johnny Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanier-Thigpen Cemetery on Quinn Store Road in Beulaville.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Autumn Village in Beulaville and the Vidant Medical Center Palliative Care Unit in Greenville.

Mary Dollina Trent Wellman, 46, Fruitland Park, FL, formerly of Indianapolis, IN and Richlands, NC, passed away July 16, 2018.  Mary was born in 1971, the third of four daughters of David and Irene (Edwards) Trent, Richlands, NC.  She has three sisters Darene Paul (Dwayne), Greenwood, IN, Dawna Keisler (Mikal), Indianapolis, IN and Faith Weaks, Indianapolis, IN. Her father, David Trent preceded her in death in 2016.  Mary was married to Keith Wellman, the love of her life for 28 years, he survives.  Mary is survived by her six children, Michael (Blair), Kathlein, Keith, Jr., Kandice, Davalia, and David, and nine grandchildren.

Clifton Frank Fountain, age 92, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Dayspring of Wallace.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Fountain.  He is survived by his daughters, Derita F. Sumner and husband Charles of Pink Hill, Cleo Fountain of Fountaintown, and grandson, Gabriel Fountain.

Emmett Eugene Wickline, age 82, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home.

Mr. Wickline is survived by his wife, Josephine Cottle Wickline of Beulaville; two daughters, Denise Wickline Blizzard and husband Wally, Donna Wickline Price and husband Mike both of Beulaville; son, Emmett Eugene “Gene” Wickline II and wife Melody of Beulaville; two sisters, Betty Pauley of KY, Helen Park of MO; two brothers, Charles Wickline of Beulaville, Larry Wickline and wife Jean of GA; six grandchildren, Paul Price and wife Lindi, Cassie Futral and husband Brandon, Hillary Cohrs and husband Chris, Erin Futral and husband Mitch, Garrett Wickline, and Ian Wickline; and five great grandchildren, Perry Miller, Lake Futral, Gabe Price, Maggie Futral, and Brier Cohrs..

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, surrounded by family, Harry N. Deal was called home to be with his Heavenly Father.  He was born on February 20, 1929, to Orion and Aubrey Deal in Kannapolis, NC.  At age 11 his family moved to Wilmington, NC where he attended Wilmington Schools and graduated from New Hanover High School.  He was then drafted into the army. He fought in the Korean War and was wounded, earning a Purple Heart.  After his discharge he moved to Jacksonville.

On February 28, 1953, he married his love, Letha Thigpen of Beulaville. They had sixty-five years together.  He attended barber school and barbered for several years.  He then changed occupations and worked as a civil service employee with Base Maintenance as a plumber until he retired.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing.  His faith in God was strong, the foundation of his life.  He enjoyed his church, Beulaville Baptist, where he sang tenor in the church choir and went on several mission trips.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Orion and Aubrey Deal; sisters, Helen Fleming and Dorothy Hollopeter; and twin daughters that died shortly after birth.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Letha Thigpen Deal of the home; daughter Robin Jarman of Beulaville; son Scott Deal (Terri) of Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren; Michelle Lamb (Doug) of Beulaville; Sabrina Willaford (Travis) of Beulaville; Nicholas Albano of Beulaville; Anna Ruth and Rebecca Deal of Murfreesboro, TN; and two great grandchildren, Audrey and Benjamin Sutton of Beulaville as well as wonderful nieces and nephews.
