Jerry May Thigpen, age 85, died Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kinston.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Myrna Thigpen, parents, Evelyn and Orvis Thigpen, brothers, Murphy and Benny Thigpen and special friend Phyllis Trott. 

Mr. Thigpen was a teacher for 36 years, a driver’s education instructor for 57 years, and served as Athletic Director and coach during his career at East Duplin High School.  He also served his country in the U. S. Army.

Mr. Thigpen is survived by his daughter, Bea Lanier of Raleigh, son, Kirk Thigpen of Beulaville, and three grandchildren.

James Haywood Fountain, age 91, died Thursday, September 2, 2021 at home.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Regina Thigpen Fountain.

Mr. Fountain is survived by his daughter, Leah Zanetta of Midlothian, VA; son, Keith Alan Fountain of Choccolocco, AL; sister Loraine Stroud of Richlands, brother Dallas Ray Fountain of Wallace; four grandchildren, Aryn, Ashley, Kyle, Morgan; and two great grandchildren, Madison, and Payton.

Delia Catherine Jones, age 78, entered the loving arms of her Heavenly Father August 8, 2021, at UNC Lenoir Hospital in Kinston. Born on January 4, 1943, during an era of difficulty; great personal strength was woven into the core of her being. Cathy was known for her perseverance, generosity, kindness, and loving heart. She spent her entire life serving and helping others.  Cathy was a devoted wife to her husband Ivey, never leaving his side for their 44 years of marriage.

She is predeceased by her parents Sam and Hazel Kennedy, her husband Ivey James Jones, her siblings Steve Edward, Johnny Ray, Bobby Dean, Patricia Ann and one great grandchild Ashleigh Joy Mazur.

Cathy is survived by her daughter Belinda Jones Batchelor of Mt. Olive; sons Rickey Lynn Jones of Kinston, Nathan James Jones of Pink Hill; sister, Peggy Jo Fields of Teachey; brothers, Randy James Kennedy of Potters Hill, D.W. Sumner of Pink Hill; six grandchildren, Emily Batchelor. , Amy B. Person, Matthew G. Jones, Andrew J. Jones, Zachary Jones, Austin J. Kennedy; and five great grandchildren, Allana, John, Taylor, Hayden, and Grayson.

Mr. Keel is survived by his wife Rhonda Whaley Keel of Pink Hill; daughters, Brittany Keel Sanders and husband Shawn of Pink Hill, Madison Keel of Pink Hill; mother Denise Keel of Pink Hill; sisters, Melissa Stevens and husband Henry of Wallace, Renee Mixon and husband Will of White Lake, Tammy Baysden and husband Robert of Pink Hill; and two grandchildren.
